Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips, 30, was shot and killed Monday while conducting a routine traffic stop along Interstate 65 in Warren County.

Following the shooting, a statewide manhunt was launched to locate the suspect.

Emonnie Branch, 51, of Portland, Tennessee, was arrested by Louisville Metro Police on Dixie Highway near West Lee Street after law enforcement agencies searched for him across several counties.

According to court records from the Tennessee Department of Correction, Branch had at least one active warrant for his arrest. He was previously arrested in Tennessee on charges of fraud and impersonation and was sentenced to five years of probation in July of last year.

Branch has now been charged with the murder of Trooper Hayden Phillips and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.

Trooper Phillips leaves behind a wife and three children.

The Kentucky State Police Foundation Fund has announced that it is accepting donations to support Phillips’ family. According to the foundation, 100% of donations made through the fund will go directly to the trooper’s family.
